" We chose OPNET Modeler® mainly because of its versatility in interacting with other simulation platforms. Our project is in cooperation with teams from several other departments at our University, as well as an outside company. Therefore a good input/output interface, e.g., co-simulation APIs, is of high priority in our project.

We plan to evaluate the performance of wireless network in a ship environment. The goal is to provide a tool set such that various parameters can be varied to evaluate different configurations and technologies in order to carefully understand the benefit of the added wireless technology."

"In 16 years of my experience in network engineering both with industry and academic institutions, I have not come across a more comprehensive network design and modeling tool as OPNET®. OPNET is as close as you get to the real network, no other network design tool comes even close to it. It provides a platform for testing ideas and designs prior to their ultra expensive implementation. I cannot imagine how any medium to large size organization dealing with communication networks can do without OPNET."

Dr. D.H.
Professor, Edith Cowan University, Australia

"Within the Electrical Engineering teaching program at SUPELEC France, OPNET is a useful and efficient tool to support lectures on Telecommunication Networks. Graduate or undergraduate students can practice on well-designed OPNET integrated tutorials and can easily modify and test existing models via a user-friendly interface and carry out short projects.

For example in order to comprehend multimedia multiservice network fundamentals and QoS concepts, basic traffic handling mechanisms and resource control can be modeled and simulated with OPNET Modeler®. The Modeler framework provides a Finite State Machine paradigm which provides a clear and efficient modeling environment and a comprehensive visualisation of the model innerworkings. Existing integrated traffic generators and analysis tools permit rapid access to QoS elements.

In addition to the capability of basic training with this professional tool, the flexibility provided by OPNET and the huge collection of models for fixed or wireless networks offer very large and impressive application fields."

Dr. M.D.
Professor, SUPELEC (Ecole Supérieure d’Electricité), France

"I used OPNET Modeler® for my PhD research. I built my own models to analyze switch/router behavior using custom algorithms. The statistic data output provided by the software obviously helped me a lot in the analysis. Later I used OPNET Modeler in a research project, which investigated protection mechanisms against link or node failure at Layer 3 by means of MPLS. I used standard OPNET protocol models to build a test network. The flexibility provided by the tool, and the huge collection of hardware models, are some of OPNET’s best features. Now as a Lecturer, I would like my students, both undergraduates and postgraduates, to use OPNET Modeler to carry out their projects. As for a networking project, simulation is often a natural choice. I believe OPNET Modeler is the best tool available because its user-friendly interface and rich features."

"I am happy to have the possibility of using the OPNET simulator in my course and research. It is considered both the most important and best-designed simulator, around the world. Years ago we would have liked to use it but the cost was too high. Now that the OPNET University program has expanded to Italy and we have more experience with simulation, we know exactly what to expect from a simulator and we are excited to be able to use a product so strongly recommended by our worldwide colleagues."

Dr. G.M.

"We will hold a lecture with exercise about Computer Networks in the coming semester. (Information about the lecture in the last semester: http://www.ti5.tu-harburg.de/Lecture/03ws/RN/claroline.ti5.tu-harburg.de/RN/)

For the exercise we plan to use a network simulation tool. Our first choice are the OPNET products, because they seem to be easy to handle, at least much better then ns2...This time I prefer IT Guru Academic, because it seems to be a great extra value, when students can download and install it at home. And I think its features are sufficient for us."

“We have used NS for a short time (three months) but now we are using OPNET. There are some comparisons between NS and OPNET:
1-In NS, there is a lack of user interface
2-NS is more difficult to learn
3-NS is less generic and less configurable than OPNET
4-There is a clearer animation with OPNET
5-OPNET has more system functions
6-The assistance (help) of OPNET is done better. “

"In the Telecommunications Management program in the Business school of the California State University at Hayward, we use OPNET to provide our students with hands-on experience in network design and performance analysis. For instance, in our WAN design class, the students learn to provision a circuit-switched private telephone network, gain experience in queuing models, and learn how increases in network demand can affect service level agreements. As the instructor, I have found these laboratory exercises to be a valuable supplement to the material covered in the text and in current news articles."

Dr. K. B.
Professor, California State University, Hayward – Computer Science

“My fiber-optics class is successful and I must add enjoyable because of OPNET IT Guru® software. Taking your suggestion, I tracked down professor Panko’s text and the simulation exercises to go with it. They are pretty well organized and serve as a good tutorial; as does the inbuilt WDM Guru® tutorial. The students have been exploring the features & functionality of the software”

Dr. V. C.
Professor, Eastern Kentucky University – Business Technology

“The students in my group were uniformly excited about the idea of gaining experience with the network simulation software used in industry.”

Dr. B. K.
Professor, University of Southern California – Electrical Engineering

"The OPNET University Program's availability in Australia is fantastic! We also find the technical support to be invaluable."

"I have worked many aspects of theoretical problems in wireless broadband systems and spent significant amount of time in writing simulation codes to verify theoretical results or to test new algorithms. In some cases, it is rather difficult to model the system close to real scenario. The built-in features in OPNET for several networking standards and protocols are very useful to our research....I am also considering adopting the textbooks, Business Data Networks & Telecommunications by Panko and/or Computer Networks A Systems Approach by Peterson & Davie, in my courses since they come with OPNET lab exercises."

Dr. S.S.
Monash University, Australia

"I want to thank you OPNET University Team] for your assistance with OPNET's recent donation of licenses to the Computer Technology Program at Purdue University. We are using the software in our Enterprise Network Management class, and everyone agrees that it has added great value to the course."
