Type
Instructor-led, classroom-based training.  Students will complete hands-on labs throughout the course.

Prerequisites
Basic understanding of networks and network applications.

Description

Important: There are two training classes available for IT Sentinel and SP Sentinel, as there are typically two types of users. Be sure you sign up for the correct class (see descriptions below). If there are any questions, please email training@opnet.com.

Introduction to Using IT Sentinel and SP Sentinel is a one-day class for those users who need to import previously-collected data from VNE Server, generate reports from this data, and review and analyze these reports. Most users of Sentinel only need to take this class.

Introduction to Administering VNE Server is a 1.5-day class for those users who need to configure, maintain, and troubleshoot the data collection engine (which Sentinel uses as a basis for its reports). Typically only a small subset of users of Sentinel need to take this class.

Sentinel performs automated, systematic, network-wide audits of your production network. It assesses the health of your network and identifies errors and misconfigurations. Such problems can impact network availability, performance, and security. Sentinel detects and proactively notifies you of critical errors. Using the optional NetMapper module, Sentinel can automatically generate up-to-date network diagrams. These can be used for planning, troubleshooting, and compliance. Comprehensive results—including summary and detailed audit information—and network diagrams, are automatically published to an integrated web-based Report Server.

This session focuses on the configuration of Sentinel to automate network configuration audits. It explains the steps involved in configuring the different automation tasks, including the import of network data from VNE Server, generation of NetDoctor and Network Difference reports, and generation of network diagrams using NetMapper. This session highlights several best practices that you can apply to set up a new Sentinel installation or to enhance the report set generated by your current implementation. This session also covers the details of administering the Report Server.  This session does not cover how to set up VNE Server.

Note:

- IT Sentinel and SP Sentinel differ in what types of networks you can import and analyze, but the workflows, methodologies, and analyses are similar. This class applies to users of both IT Sentinel and SP Sentinel.

The following topics are covered:
  • Methodologies, capabilities, and features of Sentinel
  • Importing topology and traffic information
  • Generating reports, and interpreting and analyzing these reports
  • Assessing the network’s resiliency to failure
  • Ensuring network security
  • Automating tasks
