Prerequisites:
For ACE: Basic understanding of networks and networked applications.
For IT Sentinel:
Basic understanding of network technologies.
Course Description:
Through labs and lecture, this course teaches you the fundamentals of using OPNET solutions in the IT space. The first two days focus on ACE, and the last day, IT Sentinel.
Using ACE, you will learn how to capture, filter, and import packet traces to study application behavior, analyze and predict TCP behaviors that impact application performance, and create models of applications with ACE Whiteboard.
Using IT Sentinel, you will learn to
perform automated, systematic, network-wide configuration audits of a network, and identify errors and misconfigurations that can impact network availability, survivability, performance, and security.
Various other OPNET IT solutions will be discussed and demoed throughout
the class.
Note that Cisco Application Analysis Solution (AAS) is equivalent to ACE, and Cisco Configuration Assurance Solution (CAS) is equivalent to IT Sentinel. Therefore, this class applies to students who want to learn about AAS and CAS.
Agenda:
Day 1
- ACE and AAS workflow and methodologies
- Application capture and import strategies
- Planning application deployments
Day 2
- Troubleshooting and predicting application performance
- Troubleshooting and predicting the impact of TCP on application performance
- Modeling applications with the ACE Whiteboard
Day 3
- Methodologies, capabilities, and features of Sentinel and CAS
- Importing topology and traffic information
- Generating reports, and interpreting and analyzing these reports
- Assessing the network’s resiliency to failure
- Assessing network security
- Automating these tasks
