16.0 System Requirements
SP Sentinel is comprised of the following components:
- OPNET VNE Server
- SP Sentinel Scheduled Audit Engine
- SP Sentinel Proactive Change Validation Server (*)
- OPNET Report Server
(*) This is an experimental feature in SP Sentinel 16.0. Please review the release notes before installing.
Deployment scenarios
Sentinel for Scheduled Auditing (Multiple Platforms)In this deployment scenario, the Scheduled Audit Engine is installed on a separate platform than VNE Server and the Report Server.

¹Note:
1. OPNET software is supported on the English language version of each operating system.
2. OPNET VNE Server is supported on 64-bit editions of Windows and Red Hat Linux operating systems. OPNET VNE Server is not supported on the Windows 2003 Web Edition operating system.
3. SP Sentinel will not operate on machines with the Intel Itanium processor.
4. Supported under Windows Server 2003 instances, running within virtual machines hosted by VMware ESX Server 2.0 and 3.0, subject to the following notes and limitations.
5. Larger disk space may be required depending on network size and data-retention practices.

User Authentication
The following SP Sentinel components/deployment scenarios support User Authentication for access to their respective web consoles:
- OPNET Report Server
- OPNET VNE Server
Support exists for the following User Authentication Methods: Local, RADIUS, TACACS+, Active Directory, LDAP
Other Requirements
Special Requirements (Windows Server 2008)
User Account Control (UAC) enabled on Windows Server 2008 can restrict user privileges for application software installed in C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86).
To avoid this restriction when UAC is enabled, do one of the following:
- Install OPNET software in a different directory;
- Run OPNET software as the Administrator User; or
- Disable UAC (not recommended by OPNET unless you first check with your local system administrator)
Supporting software
TCP/IP networking software is required.
Display
Colors: At least 256-color display.
Resolution: 1024x768 minimum.
Browser
Firefox 3.0 or 3.5, Internet Explorer 7.0 or 8.0, or a compatible browser that supports Style Sheets.
Import of Network Topology
eXpress Data Import (XDI) is an integrated component of SP Sentinel. It is available for the following devices: Cisco IOS versions 10.0 and above, Cisco CatOS versions 4.1 and above, Cisco PIX 6.x, and Juniper JunOS 5.5 and above.
