OPNET Announces Record Attendance at OPNETWORK 2005

BETHESDA, MD – August 29, 2005 – OPNET Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPNT), a leading provider of management software for networks and applications, today announced record attendance at its annual technology conference, OPNETWORK 2005.

OPNETWORK 2005 was held from August 22nd to August 26th in Washington, DC at the Ronald Reagan International Conference Center. Approximately 1,800 people participated in the conference. Attendees included OPNET users, technical and business leaders, and engineering practitioners representing corporate and government enterprises, defense agencies and contractors, network service providers, and network equipment manufacturers from 32 countries.

The conference included approximately 650 hours of classes, labs, panels, and case studies. Up to 24 simultaneous sessions were in progress during the week. Over 200 OPNET customers authored case studies or technical papers for the conference. OPNET engineers offered previews of the company’s latest software and upcoming product releases during lectures and in hands-on labs. Topics included application performance management, network configuration analysis, capacity planning, and modeling & simulation.

Highlights included:

Monday

  • Technology vision presented by OPNET’s founders, Marc Cohen and Alain Cohen, focusing on the role of software-based analytics for rapid troubleshooting and proactive problem prevention.
  • Keynote presentation by Andy Noma, VISA’s Vice President of Global Network Engineering, explaining the role of OPNET’s products in ensuring application performance and network resiliency.

Tuesday

  • Keynote presentation by Monica Farah-Stapleton, the US Army CERDEC’s Director of Architecture and Systems Engineering Office, explaining the role of modeling and simulation for achieving army transformation and C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) objectives.
  • Special presentation by Stuart Biggs, Advanced Services Technical Lead at Cisco Systems and first Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert, introducing innovative approaches to using OPNET NetDoctor for automated network integrity and security analysis.

Wednesday

  • Keynote presentation by Renzo Silva, Technical Director at SIAC (Securities Industry Automation Corporation), sharing his work on applying OPNET analytics to address network communication issues and business continuity for SIAC. OPNET NetDoctor software is used regularly to analyze and validate changes to the Secure Financial Transaction Infrastructure (SFTI) network, which supports financial industry customers including the New York Stock Exchange and American Stock Exchange.
  • Presentation by Saqib Syed, a Director of Technology Strategy and Architecture at Computer Associates (CA), on the importance of end-to-end modeling for capacity planning, and how the recently announced integrations between OPNET and CA products fit into CA’s technology strategy.
  • Deb Curtis, Vice President of Research at Gartner Group, shared recommendations on best practice for availability and performance management.
  • Dimitri Bertsekas, Professor at M.I.T., lectured on traffic behavior and queuing in QoS environments.

Thursday

  • Keynote presentation by Gideon Agar, a Director of Engineering and Product Management at Cisco Systems, explained how network management is an enabler for Cisco’s vision of an Intelligent Information Network, and provided context for Cisco’s relationship with OPNET.
