OPNET Announces Record Attendance and Industry Participation at OPNETWORK 2004

WASHINGTON, DC – September 8, 2004 – OPNET Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPNT), a leading provider of management software for networks and applications, today announced record attendance and record industry participation at its annual technology conference, OPNETWORK 2004, which focuses on intelligent analysis of networks, applications, and systems.

OPNETWORK 2004 was held from August 30th to September 3rd in Washington, DC at the Ronald Reagan International Conference Center. Over 1,500 IT and engineering professionals from corporate enterprises, government agencies, service providers, and network equipment manufacturers, representing 39 countries, registered for conference sessions.

Over 200 OPNET customers authored case studies. OPNET engineers offered previews of the company’s upcoming OPNET 11.0 and VNE Server 3.0 product releases during lectures for managers and engineers, as well as in hands-on tutorials. Topics included IT Governance, network and application performance management, capacity and resiliency planning, configuration and security management, and modeling and simulation.

Over 20 parallel session tracks throughout the week were punctuated by keynote sessions.

  • During Monday's keynote address, Mike Kennedy, Vice President of Infrastructure Performance Management at JPMorgan Chase Credit Card Services, shared his team’s successes in leveraging OPNET’s products for increasing infrastructure availability and minimizing IT costs. Following Mr. Kennedy’s presentation, Glenn O’Donnell, Program Director of META Group, encouraged the packed amphitheater’s attendees to implement more automated and structured processes for change management to achieve operational success.
  • During Tuesday's keynote address,Retired Army CIO and Lieutenant General, now Vice President of C4I at BAE Systems, William Campbell, shared his vision for “Operationalizing Modeling and Simulation.” The presentation included an exciting 3D demonstration of BAE’s military communications planning capabilities, leveraging new software from OPNET and MÄK Technologies.
  • At Wednesday's keynote address,Rich Trautner, IS Leader of Capacity and Performance Management from Best Buy, explained how his team enabled smooth operations and reduced infrastructure costs by implementing effective performance engineering processes with OPNET’s ACE, Server Specialized models, and IT Guru software. Following Mr. Trautner’s presentation, Deb Curtis, VP of Research at Gartner Inc., encouraged the audience to more proactively manage IT as a service aligned with business objectives.
  • On Thursday, the keynote presentation was delivered by Jim Thompson of Cisco’s Advanced Services division. Mr. Thompson introduced best-practice methodologies for measuring and managing high network availability. The presentation highlighted the value of OPNET’s NetDoctor technology for minimizing the device mis-configurations that his team often finds in enterprise networks. He also explained the value of using OPNET’s SP Guru and Cisco tools for planning and optimization of MPLS traffic engineering.

Availability
Version 11.0 of OPNET IT Guru, SP Guru, Modeler, OPNET Development Kit, IT Sentinel, SP Sentinel, and WDM Guru, as well as VNE Server 3.0 and Report Server 2.0 are planned for general availability in November 2004.
