OPNET Earns Elite Status in HP’s Enterprise Management Partner Program and Demonstrates Enhanced HP OpenView Integration

Integrated solution reduces performance engineering cycle time
for leading consumer electronics retailer

BETHESDA, MD - August 2, 2004 --OPNET Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPNT), a leading provider of management software for networks and applications, is the first to announce enlistment as an Elite Business Partner in HP’s Enterprise Management Partner program, a category reserved for a select group of HP OpenView partners. Today’s announcement follows OPNET’s demonstration of enhanced integration with HP OpenView solutions at the HP Software Forum in June.

New and enhanced integrations between OPNET and HP OpenView solutions are aimed at improving productivity in troubleshooting, management, and planning processes. OPNET is the first Elite Business Partner to announce a solution that includes new HP OpenView Interconnect technology. At the HP Software Forum, OPNET shared previews of the following enhancements:

  • Direct import (via HP OpenView Interconnect) of HP OpenView Performance Agent data into OPNET IT Guru, providing easy access to system workload data for performance analysis and capacity planning studies.
  • Data integration of HP OpenView GlancePlus server performance metrics and OPNET’s multi-tier application troubleshooting technology.
  • Detection of network device configuration changes (via HP OpenView Network Node Manager) that trigger OPNET’s VNE Server to update OPNET models for automated network integrity and security audits.
  • Drill-down performance diagnostics for troubleshooting IP applications monitored by HP OpenView Internet Services, with OPNET IT Guru and ACE.

"We’re pleased to have two industry-leading vendors assisting Best Buy, applying science to the discipline of performance engineering,” commented John Valente, Vice President, Engineering & Production Services, Best Buy, a leading North American consumer electronics retailer. "With this integrated solution, our cycle time associated with these activities has been reduced, allowing us to thoroughly validate performance and availability of all our mission critical application environments to ensure that we’re properly provisioned to handle customer transaction workloads during peak operating (holiday) periods.”

"By enhancing the technology integration with our Premier Alliance Partner, HP, we’re enabling enterprises to proactively manage performance, capacity, and integrity of their infrastructure,” stated Marc Cohen, Chairman and CEO at OPNET. "We believe that end-to-end performance analysis is an essential capability for IT organizations that have a core competency in performance engineering.”

“HP and OPNET are highly focused on developing solutions that enable enterprises to be more adaptive," said Todd DeLaughter, Vice President, Management Software Organization, HP. "By tightly coupling HP's robust management solutions with OPNET's performance troubleshooting, network auditing, and predictive planning capabilities, we’re making it easier for our customers to deploy an IT infrastructure that supports ever-changing business demands."
