today announced general availability of the 11.0 release of OPNET
IT Guru, SP Guru, Modeler, and ODK (OPNET Development Kit) products.
The latest release significantly enhances OPNET’s value
propositions for end-to-end problem solving and problem prevention,
with an open product architecture that supports several new third
party integrations.

The new software release delivers a broad spectrum
of innovative capabilities for:
Network and Application Performance
Management
- Significant enhancements
to the ACE module, which provides advanced packet analysis
for rapid end-to-end application performance troubleshooting.
New features include secure packet capture and transmission,
new analysis for CORBA and common web services (SOAP, UDDI,
MS .NET), and a new ACE Whiteboard for designing and optimizing
networked applications.
- New integrations between
ACE and Panorama and Commander (from the Altaworks acquisition),
OPNET Panorama provides realtime system performance analytics.
OPNET Commander provides active application response time monitoring.
OPNET ACE is also compatible with popular third-party response
time monitoring solutions.
Network Configuration Management
- Significantly enhanced
NetDoctor rules library for analyzing network device
configurations, with 400+ rules. Among the enhancements are
new rule suites for IP Multicast, spanning tree, Etherchannel,
MPLS VPNs, additional ATM rules, and additional security rules
(AAA, PIX, IP Routing, Administration).
Capacity Planning, Design, and R&D
- New 3D Network
Visualizer (3DNV) module for both
planning and simulation of mobile wireless communications networks.
3DNV embeds technology from MÄK Technologies
- New TIREM module for
physical layer wireless modeling. TIREM embeds technology from
Alion Science & Technology.
- New modeling capabilities
for MANET (mobile ad-hoc networking), MPLS, and IPv6.
- Multi-layer network modeling,
integrating models of IP/MPLS, ATM, and optical transport networks
for SP Guru and WDM Guru.
- New Planning and Design
module for the enterprise market.
- New SP Guru design functionality
for service providers, including MPLS TE enhancements,
Fast ReRoute (FRR) optimization, and traffic forecasting.
- New System Performance
Module for HP OpenView, for seamless import of workload
data from HP Openview Performance Manager to support enterprise
systems planning.
- Integrations with third
party solutions from HP, NetScout, Micromuse, SMARTS,
Fluke Networks, BMC, Network General, InfoVista, Concord, Cisco,
Juniper, Nortel, Extreme, Foundry, Check Point, Nokia, and several
other network and system performance management vendors.
