OPNET 9.0 Products Ship to Customers Worldwide

—Major new software release expands OPNET's value proposition to corporate and government enterprises, service providers, and R&D organizations—

BETHESDA, MD — October 28, 2002 — OPNET Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPNT), the leading provider of Intelligent Network Management software, today announced that Release 9.0 of several of its platform products have been shipped to customers worldwide.

OPNET President & CTO, Alain Cohen, stated, "We showcased earlier versions of 9.0 at our OPNETWORK event in August, and we received an unprecedented amount of positive feedback. We believe that all of our core markets will benefit from the investment we've made in the products, from corporate and government enterprises to service providers and R&D organizations."

Deb Curtis, a Research Director at Gartner, Inc., stated in a recent Network World magazine interview that OPNET's latest release can give network managers a quick evaluation of which network component or application needs to be tweaked. "OPNET software can help IT staff plan good IT investments based on real traffic and end-user service levels," added Curtis.

OPNET 9.0 versions of IT Guru, Modeler, SP Guru, and Netbiz/ODK solutions are all currently available from OPNET. IT Guru, OPNET's flagship product for the enterprise IT market, has already won recognition following sneak-preview reviews by the judges at the Networld+Interop and COMDEX 2002 tradeshow in September, where it was named Winner, Best of Show in the Network Management category.

New features in OPNET 9.0 products include:

  • Enhancements for profiling and analyzing the performance of enterprise applications, including analysis of Oracle and HTTP transactions, and the ability to rapidly predict the impact of large-scale application deployments.
  • New sources of traffic import, including the cflowd tool and Distributed Sniffer, to complement OPNET's existing traffic data sources, which include Cisco, Concord, and NetScout products. OPNET IT Guru and SP Guru use this information to support capacity planning, network resiliency assessment, and application deployment analyses.
  • New Server Characterization Editor to streamline server consolidation and server capacity planning for enterprise IT professionals. The Server Characterization Editor imports workload data from popular 3rd-party sources, including HP, and NetIQ products.
  • Extensive enhancements for troubleshooting and modeling network protocol configurations, including: ATM, BGP, EIGRP, IP, MPLS, IS-IS, Spanning Tree/VLANs, UMTS, and Servers.
  • Optimizations to the modeling environment that accelerate simulations, especially for large wireless network scenarios. These enhancements are mainly of interest to OPNET's defense and R&D clients.
