Forbes Selects OPNET for “200 Best
Small Companies in America” List
October 16, 2002, Bethesda, MD — OPNET Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPNT), the leading provider of Intelligent Network Management software, today announced that it was selected as one of the 200 Best Small Companies in America by the judges at Forbes Magazine, based on financial performance.
“The criteria we use to screen candidates is tough,” wrote Katrina Keller and Cecily J. Fluke of Forbes. OPNET made the list along with only 14 other computer software companies, of which only a handful focus on information technology.
According to Forbes, “Despite a rough economy and other forces that took the Nasdaq to its 6-year low, this year's Forbes' 200 Best Small Companies is a stellar bunch of up-and-comers. All of these companies are profitable, earning a minimum 5% net margin over the last 12 months, and all have a 5-year average return on equity of 5% or greater. Although some companies have experienced rough waters over the past few years, such as a slip in sales or earnings, their balance sheets indicate they have the muscle to remain viable entities over the long term. Each company on this list has earned its place and is, indeed, good enough to be called one of the best.” To be eligible for the “200 Best Small Companies” distinction, Forbes considered public companies with latest 12-month sales from $5 million to $600 million.
