Momentum Builds for OPNETWORK 2001

The World's Largest Event on Network Design, Modeling, and Management

BETHESDA, MD --August 16, 2001 -- OPNET Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPNT), the leading provider of intelligent network management software, today announced keynote speakers and record registration for OPNETWORK 2001, the world's largest event for network design, modeling, and management.

The event is scheduled for August 27-31, 2001 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. Since the first OPNETWORK in 1997, OPNET's annual conference has grown to become a pivotal event that enables thought leaders from all parts of the networking industry to exchange knowledge and better prepare for common challenges. The latest software and methodologies from OPNET as well as case studies from the OPNET user community will be discussed during over 300 hours of interactive sessions, hands-on workshops, and expert panels.

"Based on pre-registration data, we anticipate record attendance this year," stated Todd Kaloudis, OPNET's Vice President of Marketing. "The need has never been greater to design and operate cost-efficient networks, and to deliver communications services that live up to promises. These are the issues our customers address every day." OPNET customers from North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, and Africa have already pre-registered online.

Individual tracks are tailored to meet the needs of service provider operations and planning engineers; enterprise IT managers overseeing network and application performance management; and, manufacturers responsible for system design, architecture, and protocols. The technical program includes diverse subjects ranging from traffic engineering and capacity planning, to server configuration and application performance optimization, for next-generation wireless, optical, and wireline technologies.

OPNET named Dr. Siddhartha Devadhar as Technical Chairman, R&D Track. Dr. Devadhar is Director of Architecture & Performance Modeling for Terawave Communications. Greg Wolf was named Technical Chairman, Network Management Track. Mr. Wolf is Global Director of Emerging Technologies at Infonet Services Corporation.
