Introduces New Release: OPNET 8.0 OPNET Guru, Modeler, and Netbiz Products Benefit from Enhancements to Core TechnologyBETHESDA, MD -- July 18, 2001 -- OPNET Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPNT), the leading provider of intelligent network management software, today announced OPNET 8.0, the eighth major release of the core technology underlying its Guru, Modeler, and Netbiz products. In making today's announcement, Marc Cohen, OPNET CEO, stated, "Our software complements traditional management products with an additional, crucial layer of intelligence. Our 8.0 release furthers our leadership in the areas of advanced network and application performance troubleshooting, change validation, operational planning, and automated design." OPNET 8.0 is unique in its ability to understand networks in their entirety, including applications, routers, switches, servers, and protocols for traditional, wireless, and optical technologies. OPNET sells focused software solutions to three distinct markets: ServiceProvider Guru is marketed primarily to service providers; IT Guru to enterprises; Modeler and Netbiz to equipment manufacturers. Alain Cohen, OPNET President and CTO, stated, "All of our products -- IT Guru, Modeler, Netbiz, and the new ServiceProvider Guru -- share the same underlying technology, what we refer to as the 'virtual network environment.' OPNET 8.0, the latest version of this core technology, brings additional value to each of our customers." 8.0 releases of the ServiceProvider Guru, IT Guru, Modeler, and Netbiz products include an improved model library, and a new QoS-savvy hybrid simulation engine designed to radically improve the speed of detailed QoS analyses. With 8.0 also comes an improved workflow and ability to import and export self-documenting network models using XML. As with previous OPNET releases, many of the new 8.0 capabilities are provided in modular extensions to the four products. With the 8.0 Multi-Vendor Import (MVI) Module, customers can now automatically generate network models based on configuration files from their production network, and automatically configure model attributes that control routing behavior. The new NetDoctor Module automates the process of identifying and solving configuration problems, and includes a scriptable interface for automating custom analyses. The new Flow Analysis Module enables rapid analysis of traffic routing and failure scenarios. The newest specialized models, UMTS, MPLS, PNNI, and DOCSIS, have all been updated for 8.0. Also in OPNET 8.0, the award-winning ACE Module for application
performance visualization, diagnosis, and prediction has been significantly
improved, furthering OPNET's competitive advantages in advanced application
performance analysis. ACE has already earned OPNET the distinguished SuperQuest
Award for "Best e-Business Solution." The 8.0 release of ACE includes
an innovative "trace merge" feature, enabling customers to analyze
muli-tiered applications with unprecedented accuracy. ACE now also ships
with an "application capture" utility for remote application profiling.
When combined with OPNET's products, ACE provides a seamless, integrated
solution for acquiring application trace data from an operational network,
analyzing it, and quantifying performance in a myriad of virtual network
scenarios. OPNET 8.0 products are available immediately. For more information please contact OPNET Sales at 240.497.3000, or info@opnet.com. About OPNET Technologies, Inc.
