Global Crossing to Deploy SP Guru for CAPEX Optimization
BETHESDA,
MD, October 30, 2001 --
OPNET Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPNT), the leading provider of intelligent
network management software, today announced a multi-million dollar agreement
with Global Crossing Ltd. (NYSE:GX) that includes software licenses of
OPNET's new SP Guru product and professional services.
In making today's announcement, OPNET Chairman and CEO Marc Cohen
stated, "We are pleased to be working closely with Global Crossing, a
thought-leader and innovator in the telecommunications industry. We believe
they will realize significant cost savings by leveraging our intelligent network
management software."
Working with a leading systems integrator, OPNET is delivering
an SP Guru-based solution that will optimize capital expenditures and provide
continuous process improvement for Global Crossing. SP Guru is a revolutionary
new product that builds on the new 8.0 release of OPNET's core technology,
adding significant new features for configuration troubleshooting, change validation,
predictive planning, and design optimization. SP Guru will be extended to import
Global Crossing's demand forecast and inventory information, providing an industry-first
combination.
Larry Rein, Global Capacity Planning Leader at Global Crossing,
stated, "Global network capacity planning is a critical component of our
network realization model. Initially the OPNET software will play a crucial
role in optimizing CAPEX, as well as recommending specific network program
plans to meet the demand forecast. Using conservative estimates we anticipate
the implementation costs will be dwarfed by the savings we'll achieve by incorporating
this advanced technology into our planning process."
