OPNETWORK 2000 Commands Attention of Technology Industry, Shines Spotlight on Washington, DC

Event to Bring More than 900 Network Professionals from 40 Countries to Nation's Capital, Top Industry Minds to Share Best Practices for Optimizing Network and Application Performance

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- August 25, 2000 -- OPNET Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPNT), a provider of intelligent network management software, is set to host OPNETWORK 2000, the company's fourth annual technology conference being held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center from August 28th through September 1st.

"In just a few short years, this conference has become a significant event in the networking industry," said Marc Cohen, CEO of OPNET. "OPNETWORK brings together networking professionals from service providers, enterprise IT organizations, and network equipment manufacturers in a venue that allows them to share knowledge and gain firsthand exposure to enabling-technologies for tomorrow's networks."

An estimated 900 attendees from the private sector and academia, nearly double the attendance of 1999, will have the opportunity to participate in more than 100 sessions. The sessions will highlight new and innovative approaches to maximize the performance of networks and applications with network management technologies including measurement, design, planning, and troubleshooting.

Industry Luminaries to Share Knowledge

OPNETWORK 2000 co-chairs Seaho Song of Nortel Networks and Maurice Barnett of Dell Computer will kickoff the conference. "This is the time and place to be for all of us who work at the forefront of network and application technology. With strong participation from Europe and Asia as well as the Americas, this year's technical sessions promise to be rich in content and diverse in their range of topics," said Mr. Song.

The conference features keynote presentations by world-class technology professionals George Swallow of Cisco Systems, Lawrence Orans of Gartner Group and Dave Payne of OnVantage.com. Mr. Swallow is a committee chairman for both the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the ATM Forum. He is a Technical Leader at Cisco Systems where his primary focus is traffic engineering. Mr. Orans is a Senior Analyst at Gartner Group where his research focuses on LAN and WAN infrastructures. Before joining Gartner, Mr. Orans held engineering posts at 3Com, IBM and Bay Networks. Mr. Payne is the Vice President of Corporate Development at OnVantage.com. Prior to OnVantage, he was the Chief Architect of Commercial Space Systems at Lockheed Martin.

Other distinguished speakers include Dr. Daniel Manasce of George Mason University, Dr. Raj Jain a professor at Ohio State University and the Chief Technology Officer at Nayna Networks, and Dr. Dimitri Bertsekas of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
