Lockheed Martin Standardizes On MIL 3 Software Suite For Network Modeling And Simulation

IT DecisionGuru to Optimize Design of Lockheed's LAN and WAN Network Implementations; OPNET Modeler to Reduce Development Cycle of New Communication Products

WASHINGTON, DC -- March 3, 1999 -- MIL 3, Inc., a leading developer of modeling and simulation software for network planning and design, today announces that Lockheed Martin's Engineering Process Improvement (EPI) Program has selected MIL 3's software suite as the preferred tool for network simulation required in the design and implementation of internal and customer LAN and WAN network implementations as well as for the development of its next-generation communication products, including satellite and radar systems.

Under terms of the agreement, MIL 3 will provide Lockheed Martin with two simulation solutions for predictive-performance analysis. MIL 3's IT DecisionGuru will be used by Lockheed Martin to ensure that the design of its LAN and WAN implementations will meet specified performance levels. MIL 3's OPNET Modeler will be used by Lockheed Martin's research and development teams to model the expected real-world performance of several new communication systems that Lockheed Martin is planning to bring to market.

"We selected MIL 3 in a competitive procurement involving 38 simulation software vendors," said Greg Niemann, principal systems engineer for Lockheed Martin's EPI Program. "The MIL 3 solution is adept at modeling sophisticated satellite communication systems and custom protocols as well as emerging technologies that we may apply to our own intranet, such as ATM, allowing us to accurately simulate the future performance of these communication systems."

"We are excited to be selected as Lockheed Martin's preferred tool for network modeling and simulation," said Marc Cohen, chief executive officer of MIL 3. "Our relationship with Lockheed Martin dates back to 1989 and we are proud to extend this relationship to a global level. Lockheed's decision validates the important role of modeling and simulation -- from the design phase through implementation and operations -- in optimizing the performance of communication networks."
