Industry Recognition for MIL 3 Escalates in 1999 as Network Computing Becomes latest Magazine to Laud Software Developer

Network Computing Follows IEEE Spectrum, Network World and PC Week with Strong Endorsement of Software for "Managing the Future of Networks and Applications"

WASHINGTON, DC -- December 9, 1999 -- Network Computing recently profiled MIL 3's IT DecisionGuru software and proclaimed, "this simulation package may save … your job." Such high praise resulted from the software's role in the magazine's comprehensive testing of leading Voice-over-Packet (VoP) products. IT DecisionGuru was used to validate technology and deployment tradeoffs as Network Computing examined the effects of VoP solutions on data networks. This is the latest in a string of high-profile endorsements for MIL 3's family of simulation-based Decision Support Software. The full article can be found in Network Computing's October 18 issue and is titled, "An Ovation for Network Simulation".

"The industry is taking note of the tremendous strides that MIL 3 is making in managing the future of networks and applications," said Steve Johnson, vice president of marketing at MIL 3. "Whether you're talking about ERP deployment, network planning, research and development or Voice-over-Packet, MIL 3's software has proven it is equal to the task in one independent test after another. These independent trials demonstrate that MIL 3 is providing unmatched capabilities in a virtual proving ground that allows customers to quickly and effectively validate the performance and resiliency of today's demanding networks and applications."

IT DecisionGuru Saves Time, Money … Even Jobs

Network Computing used IT DecisionGuru to test bit-error rates and network delays in proposed VoP designs. The testing staff was so impressed with the performance of MIL 3's software that it told readers, "If you want to get a handle on what effect voice will have on your data network, this simulation package may save you some time and money, and maybe even your job."

This followed a product comparison in May 1999 by Network World in which its testing staff studied the ability of simulation software to help optimize network performance and eliminate the purchase of unnecessary WAN bandwidth. The magazine reported, "MIL 3's IT DecisionGuru is our top choice. If you want the Ferrari of simulators, this is the product to purchase." The magazine presented MIL 3 with its prestigious World Class Award; IT DecisionGuru's test score turned out to be the highest of all products tested by Network World in all categories during 1999.

OPNET Modeler and ERP NetworkGuru Earn High Praise

The critical success of MIL 3's software suite extends beyond IT DecisionGuru to OPNET Modeler and ERP NetworkGuru. Historically, OPNET Modeler has been used by the research and development community to verify product designs and accelerate the development of communications protocols. OPNET Modeler continues to focus on this area and was recently highlighted in the technical journal IEEE Spectrum in August 1999. The reviewer found the product effective, intuitive, powerful and "remarkably flexible."

In a relatively new application, ERP NetworkGuru, MIL 3's core technology has been adapted to assist in the design, management and optimization of ERP implementations. ERP NetworkGuru for SAP R/3 was featured by PC Week in an August 1999 article. After extensive testing, the magazine determined that, "ERP NetworkGuru proved to be a deft tool that should help network planners make good choices when it comes to resizing networks. ERP NetworkGuru provided answers to tough 'what if' scenarios by weaving together specific server performance metrics, WAN media characteristics and simulations of R/3 modules." PC Week gave the software an "A" grade for its overall capability.

"MIL 3 has been providing customers with meaningful solutions for 14 years and it's very gratifying to see the industry acknowledge the result of that hard work," added Johnson. "When the Smithsonian Institution announced that our software was being added to its collection on information technology in 1998, we were very proud and today we're ecstatic that so many of our products continue to be recognized for there superior capabilities. We remain committed to developing solutions that solve the challenging problems confronting networking professionals."

About MIL 3

The MIL 3 family of Decision Support Software reduces the considerable cost, labor and risk involved in the development of networking hardware and systems, the management of IT resources, the deployment of applications, and the delivery of communications services. The flagship products are OPNET Modeler, for research and development, and IT DecisionGuru, for service providers and IT decision makers. Using advanced modeling and simulation, these products enable MIL 3 customers to easily and quickly understand the impact of a design or proposal and make any necessary adjustments before committing to a course of action. MIL 3's best-in-class products are complemented by outstanding consulting, training and support services.
