MIL 3, Analytical Graphics Link Solutions To Provide Stronger Satellite Communications Modeling And Analysis

MIL 3's OPNET Modeler/Radio Now Imports Satellite Orbit Data
from Analytical Graphics' Satellite Tool Kit (STK)¨

WASHINGTON, DC -- March 8, 1999 -- MIL 3, Inc., a leading developer of modeling and simulation solutions for network planning and design, today announces a new interface for its OPNET Modeler/Radio software that allows users to import orbit data, for use in the performance analysis of communications satellites, from STK 4.0, the flagship software product from Analytical Graphics, Inc.

OPNET's new interface into STK is designed to provide users with more flexibility as they tailor their modeling and simulation environments to study the performance of proposed and existing satellite-communications networks. While OPNET is able to model orbit data as a standalone product, the new interface enables STK's users to import orbit data from that software into OPNET Modeler/Radio, thereby eliminating a possible duplication of effort.

"Our relationship with Analytical Graphics should be a real benefit to our mutual customers," said Marc Cohen, chief executive officer of MIL 3. "Satellite-based communication is now so pervasive that the need to understand the future performance of these systems is critical for communications service providers, satellite system designers and manufacturers, governmental agencies including the military, and end-user companies that rely heavily on satellites for their business operations. Now, these users can leverage STK's detailed orbit information while benefiting from OPNET's industry-leading modeling and simulation environment."

OPNET Modeler enables users to understand the expected performance of communications networks, protocols and applications through software-based simulation either before initial deployment or prior to making changes to existing networks. OPNET Modeler/Radio is a superset of OPNET Modeler with the added capability of modeling radio links and mobile communications nodes, including ground, airborne and satellite.

"The integration of MIL 3 and Analytical Graphics products underscores both companies' commitment to providing the strongest possible solutions for the analysis and design of satellite communications," said Lauren Miller, business partner group manager at Analytical Graphics. "MIL 3's expertise in network-performance modeling and simulation, and our strength in satellite modeling and analysis, make a great combination for customers who are developing or enhancing satellite-communications systems.

" STK 4.0 is the core of Analytical Graphics' suite of analysis software that addresses all phases of a space system's life cycle, from policy development and design to launch and operations. It's satellite modeling provides detailed information about satellite attitude, location, orbit, velocity and accessibility to specific points on Earth, resulting in the sophisticated visualization necessary to analyze the critical aspects of virtually any satellite-communications project.

Pricing and Availability

The new interface for OPNET Modeler/Radio into STK 4.0 is available immediately. The interface is included with OPNET Modeler/Radio Version 5.1 at no additional cost.
