![]() MIL 3 Announces Focused Solution for SAP Network Planning Washington, DC, May 5, 1998 -- MIL 3, the industry pioneer in network simulation software, today announced a new tool for predicting the impact of deploying SAP software on an enterprise network. The product, ERP Network Planner for SAP R/3, uses MIL 3's powerful OPNET Planner technology to predict the performance and behavior of communications networks. SAP-specific features, such as explicit representation of the three-tier client-server architecture, focus the solution on networking issues of interest to SAP practitioners. The tool can be used to assess the suitability of an existing enterprise network for rollout of a proposed SAP deployment. If the existing network is not sufficient, ERP Network Planner for SAP R/3 assists with capacity planning to determine required link sizing. Current network traffic and detailed protocol interactions are modeled to return accurate application response time predictions. According to Marc Cohen, CEO of MIL 3, "Today's network-centric applications are affected crucially by enterprise network issues. Applications development and networking departments must work together to ensure success of application rollout. ERP Network Planner for SAP R/3 has application-specific detail combined with proven OPNET Planner network simulation technology to predict the effects of application and network interactions." Michael Powers, Director of MIL 3's OPNET Solutions Group, added, "We have validated the tool by working closely with leading-edge organizations on actual large scale SAP deployments. The model results have closely matched the behavior of prototype deployments, and we've been able to answer some critical questions about how SAP will perform on existing networks." MIL 3 is a rapidly growing developer of advanced software tools for communications network planning and design. Based in Washington, D.C., MIL 3 has been the world leader in providing state-of-the-art products for modeling and simulating communications networks since 1986. With its OPNET family of products, MIL 3 has provided more than 1,000 organizations of all sizes around the world with sophisticated tools to quickly and efficiently design or improve communications networks or components. MIL 3 serves North America, Europe, Asia / Pacific and the Middle East both directly through its headquarters in the United States, and indirectly through a network of distributors.
