![]() HP, MIL 3 Deliver Next Generation Network-Service Modeling Solution Solution Takes Only Minutes to Begin Eliminating Guesswork from Enterprise Application Deployment, Technology Migration and Business/IT Expansion PALO ALTO, Calif. -- June 29, 1998 --
Hewlett-Packard Company and MIL 3, Inc. today announce delivery of a modeling
solution that removes much of the uncertainty companies face when implementing
new information technology (IT) systems and capabilities.
The new predictive-modeling solution helps network managers and IT professionals
determine the impact that major IT projects will have on critical network service
levels and is designed to help reduce the costs associated with such projects
while giving IT managers visibility into the steps that must be taken to ensure
business continuity. The solution is comprised of three software pieces: MIL 3’s OPNET Planner, HP OpenView NetMetrix and HP OpenView Network Node Manager. OPNET Planner is a simulation and modeling tool that leverages the information provided by HP OpenView to accurately predict future network service levels based on specific changes to the IT infrastructure. OPNET's predictive data can help avoid costly network downtime, optimize application performance and eliminate the unnecessary expense of excess network bandwidth that many companies deploy to overcompensate for the possibility of substandard service levels. “Network-service modeling tools have been limited
in the past by the complexity of the products, their high price tags and
steep learning curves,” said Jeff Thiemann, general manager of HP's
NetMetrix Division.
“The HP/Mil 3 solution has broken these barriers by helping network managers
generate baseline models of network topology and traffic in only a few minutes. We
feel that our new tools can make network-service modeling routine among IT
managers.” Latest Planning Software As part of today's announcement, MIL 3 is releasing OPNET Planner 5.0. The software has been significantly enhanced through much deeper integration with HP OpenView, including the ability to automatically access and process HP OpenView’s comprehensive network-services-related data. No other combined modeling and management solution offers this degree of synergy. OPNET Planner also has been modified to use scenario-based modeling to make the planning process as intuitive and realistic as possible. “This relationship is moving along very quickly and our customers are the real winners,” said Marc Cohen, MIL 3’s chief executive officer. “In less than a year, we’ve become an HP OpenView Premier Partner, announced a joint-development agreement and delivered a combined solution to address critical customer needs. We plan to continue delivering additional capabilities that will make it even easier for IT managers to keep their technology a step ahead of their companies’ business needs.” Pricing and AvailabilityPlease contact MIL 3 for pricing and availability by phone
