Harris is an international
communications and information
technology company serving
government and commercial
markets in more than 150 countries.
Headquartered in Melbourne,
Florida, the company has annual revenue of
$5.4 billion USD and 16,000 employees —
including nearly 7,000 engineers and
scientists. Harris is dedicated to developing
best-in-class assured communications®
products, systems, and services.
Military communication devices must fulfill
stringent and dynamic network
requirements such as providing high data
rate, secure communications using scarce
channel bandwidth. Harris leveraged
OPNET Modeler’s scalable simulation
environment to test and evaluate the
Highband Networking Radio (HNR) that
provides high spectral efficiency using
narrow-beam antennas. Harris developed a
high-fidelity, custom MAC layer process
model in Modeler to represent the
functionality of the HNR. Using Modeler’s
predictive analysis capabilities Harris
validated the HNR algorithms and studied
its performance within simulated networks
of various configurations and sizes. Harris
uses the intuitive simulation results to
demonstrate the significant advantages of
HNRs to potential customers.
"OPNET Modeler is a de-facto
standard in the industry for network
modeling and simulation. Using
Modeler’s advanced simulation
capabilities we are able to
exhaustively test the performance of
new products such as the HNR under varying
network architectures and traffic. Modeler’s
value is illustrated by our innovative products
being deployed in critical missions including
the war in Iraq.”
